DID YOU KNOW AN ANNUAL EYE EXAM IS A CRITICAL COMPONENT OF DIABETES CARE?

Visionworks and Davis Vision in Year Two of National Sponsorship of American Diabetes Association’s Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes in South Florida

focusSAN ANTONIO, TX
(October 18, 2016) – Visionworks and Davis Vision are participating in the American Diabetes Association’s (Association) Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes for the second year. On Saturday, October 22, 2016 the eyewear retailer and managed vision care provider will continue their support of the Association’s walks by enlisting associates to promote the importance of healthy vision for people living with diabetes at their station located at Huizenga Park, 32 E. Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, walk participants can pick up informational materials and special promotional coupons at Visionworks Healthy Vision Station.

“Last year, we had several teams participating across the country to raise money and awareness for diabetes in their local communities. This year, we’re taking it a step further and encouraging our employees and their families, company vendors, friends, and neighbors to join the cause and support our teams in their fundraising efforts in South Florida,” said Jim Eisen, president and CEO of HVHC Inc., and president of Visionworks. “We like that Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes is a fun, healthy event that brings co-workers and their families together outside of work to help the American Diabetes Association stop diabetes and it’s a cause our team is passionate about.”

Visionworks and Davis Vision’s goals are to educate and encourage both children and adults to get annual eye exams in an effort to protect their eyes and overall health. According to the American Diabetes Association, the leading cause of blindness in working-age American adults is diabetes. However, most people do not realize that a yearly eye exam is a critical component to regular diabetes care.

“This year, we are celebrating 25 years of our Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes events, which support our ongoing efforts to improve the lives of people with diabetes through research, advocacy, and education,” said Chrissy Cohen, Market Director, American Diabetes Association. “Our goal is to help the more than 29 million Americans living with diabetes, and the nearly 86 million Americans living with prediabetes. Thank you, Visionworks and Davis Vision, for your continued participation in Step Out and helping us share this valuable message—annual eye exams are critical to diabetes care.”

Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes in South Florida is a family friendly event including music, food, kids’ activities, local entertainment, and most importantly, the company of those who are passionate about the fight against diabetes. The theme of this year’s Step Out is Halloween Walk and there will be a very special Trick-or-Treat Kids Walk. In addition, one lucky walker will win a 7-Day Caribbean Cruise, courtesy of Norwegian Cruise Lines. At the more than 15 locations in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami area, Visionworks maintains a large selection of eyewear to promote healthy sight such as UV-treated lenses, polycarbonate impact-resistant lenses, polarized sun lenses, flexible frames, and Optomap ultra-wide digital retinal imaging system.
